Broken bone or stone bruise?

Two weeks ago I fell off a boat and kicked the propeller pretty hard with the top of my foot. It immediately swelled up and was very painful but no bruise. That night it was so swollen over the spot that hurt that it look like a golf ball was under my skin but was very soft and squishy. It still hurts to walk on it, there is a bruise over almost my entire foot and there is one specific spot that hurts. Not a general area. I tried to put on tennis shoes yesterday but couldn't because it hurt too bad to get my foot in. A friend told me it was probably a stone bruise and I've never broken a bone so j have nothing to compare it to. Any advice?
