Bmw timing belt question. is putting in a new propeller (Drive) shaft the same as changing the timing belt?

Nothing at all similar. The timing belt is in the front of the engine, & it drives the camshaft. The drive shaft is between the end of the transmission & the rear differential. Change the timing belt, for sure. The water pump is much easier ( cheaper ) to get at, so you could wait on that.
