How to make propellers or jet propulsion (heavier vehicles) renewable?

I was thinking that cars are getting all the good treatment of electric and renewable technology. I'd understand how electricity can power tiny cars, but what about for larger more powerful transports? How do you get planes off the ground with just electricity? How about moving tons of metal for a tank? Helicopters? maybe I'm thinking wrong-maybe some kind of other clean propulsion fluid?
